Niigata City Ward Offices

Niigata City is divided into 8 administrative wards. Each ward has its own kuyakusho or ward office providing government services to local residents. You need to visit your local ward office to register as a foreign resident, to change your residence status, and to sign up for national health insurance and pension. You should also go to your ward office to complete paperwork for events such as marriage, divorce, birth, death, etc.

Kita Ward Office

Higashi Ward Office

Bus: From Bandai City Bus Center, take a bus bound for Matsuhama, or a Rinko, Yamanoshita, or Funaecho line bus and get off at the "Matsuhirobashi" bus stop. (3 min. walk)

Chuo Ward Office

Bus: From Bandai City Bus Center, take any bus bound for Uchino, Daigaku-mae or any Shinanomachi-line bus and get off at the "Shiyakushomae" bus stop. (1 min. walk)

Train: Take the JR Shin-etsuhon line at Niigata Station and get off at Kameda Station (30 min. walk)
Bus: From Kameda Station, take a bus bound for Chinoyama or Hayadori and get off at either the "Konankuyakusho" (1 min. walk) or "Satsukicho" bus stop (5 min. walk)

Akiha Ward Office

Minami Ward Office

Nishi Ward Office

Train: Take the JR Echigo line at Niigata Station and get off at Terao Station (a 10 min. walk)
Bus: Take a Terao-keiyu (route via Terao) bus and get off at the "Sakaiwa Chugakkomae" bus stop (1 min. walk). You can also take an Obori-keiyu (route via Obori) bus and get off at the "Sakaihigashi Shogakko Iriguchi" bus stop (5 min. walk). Another option is a Nishikobari-keiyu (route via Nishikobari) bus and get off at the "Teraoshinmachi Higashi" bus stop (10 min. walk)
