What is the Niigata English Journal?

The Niigata English Journal (also known as the EJ or NEJ) is a monthly newsletter issued by the Niigata City International Exchange Foundation. It is made specifically for English-speaking foreign residents of Niigata City by a team of non-Japanese and Japanese writers and editors.

Every month, the newsletter features 10 pages of useful information about local news affecting non-Japanese residents, events, movies, and interesting places to go and things to do in Niigata. There are also sections with a mini Japanese lesson, a guide to English-language TV programs, and an advice column for labor and employment issues.

We also accept contributions from readers when space is available, so please contact us if you have a story. We are always looking for new topics to write about, too, so feel free to tell us about an event or business you want to publicize!

How to Get Your Copy of the English Journal
The newsletter is printed around the 1st of every month. Paper copies of current and past issues of the EJ and our other newsletters can always be found at the Friendship Center. You can also request to have a copy mailed to your home every month (for free if you are a non-Japanese resident of Niigata City; others will have to pay postage).

The current issue of the EJ is also available online. Download the latest issue here! (PDF file; requires Adobe Reader.

You can also find copies of the newest issue at your local ward office's Foreign Residents Registration Window, many local universities and colleges, some public libraries, public halls, community centers, and participating business establishments.
